Why the name ‘The Anthemist?’

An ‘Anthemologist’ is someone who studies the history and theory of anthems in an academic context. An ‘Anthemist’ is a passionate hobbyist who seeks to satisfy their curiosity of the same subject. We certainly classify ourselves as the latter.

What qualifies you to speak on this?

The simplest answer is that we’re not. We’re just two people who are curious enough about a topic to spend our weekends researching stories and discussing them. To hear more of our thoughts on this, be sure to check out Episode Zero, where we dive into this in greater detail.

Where is this recorded?

The Anthemist is recorded in Josh’s make-shift basement studio, and occasionally his kitchen table. Both of these places reside in the outskirts of Washington, DC.

How do you choose which countries to feature?

Our ultimate aim is to try to cover as diverse group of nations as possible from the get go, as we work our way across the globe. Our end goal is obviously to cover all 197 countries in the world, plus a few territories and special cases (we’re looking at you, Puerto Rico), but obviously we have a while to go. As such, they’re usually chosen from a rotating list of regions as we attempt to spread our coverage out as fairly as possible.

How can I nominate a country to an episode?

We enlist our Patreon supporters to help us narrow down what they want to hear next. We have a weekly poll on our page to choose the next country from the short list. Join us over there to nominate your favorites!

I’d like to suggest something for an upcoming episode. Can I contribute?

We’d love to hear from you! All contributions, comments, corrections, and guest requests can be given through our contact page, or directly to our email.
